INTRODUCTION TO CANOEING

This 1-day course is ideal for anyone interested in getting a taste of canoeing, learning the basics, and having some fun, the day entails getting to know your kit, some knowledge about the river environment, basic paddling skills, and then a river trip during which to practice your skills, have some fun and take on some easy rapids. At the end of the day, participants are encouraged to get wet and practice a deliberate capsize, this experience is invaluable in the event that you should do one accidentally one day. A fun and relaxed day out, bring a packed lunch.

INTRODUCTION TO WW CANOEING

Suitable for people who have done a decent amount of open canoe paddling on the flat water and have had some formal training on the core strokes, turns and directions of movement. This 1 day course introduces the techniques you require to maneuver around easy rapids such as breaking in and out and ferry gliding, basic hydrology will be included giving you an understanding of how rapids work and how to use them and descend them well.

INTRODUCTION TO WW KAYAKING

This day white water intro course focuses on learning the skills needed to move your kayak around on moving water, the first couple of hours of the course are spent doing preparatory skills on slow or still water, as the day progresses you will move into gradually faster, stronger, more exciting water learning skills including breaking in and out, ferry gliding, hydrology theory and how to decide your way through a simple rapid.

Personal Performance Awards

In January 2019, British Canoeing Awarding Body launched the new Personal Performance Awards. They replace the existing Star Awards.

After extensive independent research and wider consultation with the paddling community, British Canoeing Awarding Body and volunteers have created a framework of awards. This framework represents and supports the diverse paddling community.

The new Personal Performance Awards are designed for paddlers wanting to gain recognition of their learning and development, in the craft and environment they choose.

 

 

PADDLE DISCOVER AWARD – Canoe or Kayak

BRITISH CANOEING PADDLE DISCOVER AWARD – Canoe or Kayak

The introduction to canoeing or kayaking course is open to anyone, ideal if you haven’t done any skills training or are a complete beginner. You will learn about the equipment, the river, basic techniques whilst paddling. The day is designed to be a fun and enjoyable insight into open canoeing or kayaking by learning some skills and then putting them into practice during a beautiful river trip down the River Wye stopping for a riverside picnic on route.

The Discover Award allows you to develop your decision making and practical skills for a fun and safe time on the water, taking you on the next steps towards becoming a proficient and independent paddler. Learn how to choose and effectively use equipment, whilst developing an understanding of the factors which affect your paddling; giving you the confidence to progress to making your own choices with the Explore Award. PADDLE EXPLORE AWARD, Canoe or Kayak

BRITISH CANOEING PADDLE EXPLORE AWARD – Can be completed using Canoe or Kayak.

A variety of river sections & skills in canoes or kayaks covered over 1/2 days in separate courses. An improvement award that helps paddlers develop fundamental paddlesport skills on flat water. The emphasis is on gaining a breadth of experience, creating the desired movement of the boat and developing an understanding of how to paddle,

Your Explore Award gives you ownership; allowing you to choose where you move next in the world of paddlesport. Working with a coach you will be able to develop a programme that suits what you need. Learning to make confident choices with this individualised approach. Recognising your ability to independently paddle your chosen craft in a sheltered water environment.
