What do we wear and bring?
Wear light synthetic or thermal clothes if possible that will dry quickly and are still warm when wet, not cotton or denim. Sports sandals or old trainers with good grip, the river banks are often steep, rocky and slippery.
Bring a fleece, waterproofs, sun protection, water, snacks, medication, cash for pub with you, we don’t recommend you take electricals or valuables but a mobile phone should be taken. Small barrels given.
Leave a change of clothes and towel in the car for after, just in case!
What extras do we take on overnight trips?

Please see boat types.
Do canoes capsize?
Sometimes they do, always be prepared, they are stable but people get caught out, take a spare top and leave a change of clothes in the car.
What if the weather is bad?
If the river is very high and dangerous we will cancel, we will rearrange or refund your booking and give you as much notice as possible. If it is just raining please bring waterproofs, you can hire them if you don’t have them. Very strong winds could also cause us to cancel.
How far can we canoe in a day?
10-15 miles is comfortable, 15-20 is challenging, you can average at speed of 3.5 miles per hour over a long day with breaks. A head-wind could make this much more difficult so it sensible to not set your goals to high just in case.

No, we don’t allow fishing from the boats, at campsites you must have an EA rod licence and permission from the riparian rights owner.

Yes, but no showers, the Leisure Centre opposite can provide showers for a small charge opposite us.

Yes, we provide dry barrels with the canoes and dry bags with the kayaks. We do not guarantee these, so don’t take electricals unless you have your own suitable watertight container. Mobile phone is now recommended.

It varies in depth over the whole of the river
