Can I hire on my own?
No there must be at least 2 people on the river, but you can join a guided trip.

Can I hire a boat with my children?
Depending on the trip, experience and age of children, see trip and boat information.

Can we take our dog?
If it will fit, you trust it to behave and you don't tie it in.

What is the youngest age?
2-3 years, as long as they fit the buoyancy aids, trips downriver of Monmouth.

I am pregnant, have an injury or condition, can I canoe?
We suggest you contact us.

What do we wear and bring?
Wear light synthetic or thermal clothes if possible that will dry quickly and are still warm when wet, not cotton or denim. Sports sandals or old trainers with good grip, the river banks are often steep, rocky and slippery.
Bring a spare jumper, waterproofs, sun protection, water, snacks, medication, cash for pub with you, we don’t recommend you take electricals or valuables.
Leave a change of clothes and towel in the car for after, just in case! -
What extras do we take on overnight trips?
Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, torch, cooker, pans, cutlery, cup, food, water, wash bag, first aid kit, change of clothes, warm jumper. And as what to wear and bring.

What is the difference between a canoe and a kayak?
Please see boat types.

Do canoes capsize?
Sometimes they do, always be prepared, they are stable but people get caught out, take a spare top and leave a change of clothes in the car.

What if the weather is bad?
If the river is very high and dangerous we will cancel, we will rearrange or refund your booking and give you as much notice as possible. If it is just raining please bring waterproofs, you can hire them if you don’t have them. Very strong winds could also cause us to cancel.

How far can we canoe in a day?
10-15 miles is comfortable, 15-20 is challenging, you can average at speed of 3.5 miles per hour over a long day with breaks. A head-wind could make this much more difficult so it sensible to not set your goals to high just in case.

Can we fish from the boats?
No, you we don’t allow fishing from the boats, at campsites you must have an EA rod licence and permission from the riparian rights owner.

We are under 18 can we go?
Between 16 and 18 you may go with a letter of parental consent, below 16s must be accompanied by adults.

Do you have changing rooms/toilets?
Yes, but no showers, they can be taken in the leisure centre for a small charge.

Do we get storage in the boat?
Yes, we provide dry barrels with the canoes and dry bags with the kayaks. We do not guarantee these, so don’t take electricals unless you have your own suitable watertight container.

How deep is the river?
It varies! A lot is just a couple of feet, and a lot of it you can’t stand around 2 meters.

Do we get a map/briefing?
Yes, we provide everybody with a map/route briefing before you leave the centre, we use a display to show you certain areas of importance like the rapids.

What happens at the finish?
We explain everything in the briefing at the beginning so you are not left wondering. The finish is just around the corner from the canoe centre, so you walk around and check in with your equipment.

What if we need to alter your trip?
If for reasons beyond our control we have to alter your trip to a similar alternative you will be given the new option, if you partake in the new option you will not be entitled to a refund.
